I think the best part of being in 5c, especially such a flexible 5c like RK, is you can run literally anything and everything you want that supports your end goal. Backstory: Reaper King is known as a casual commander that plays bad scarecrows & changelings, but this deck utilizes the artifact type of. That's how I'd run it, were I to build him. The King is Back Welcome to my Reaper King competitive (ish) EDH deck, this is an artifact combo control deck with multiple win cons and control elements. If you can afford fetches that's a big step up, but even stuff like ] and other good mana rocks and fixers would probably do the trick for you. I think the toughest part would be making a manabase that works on a budget (if you're on one). You're in 5c, so you have access to the best ramp, some countermagic support for your combos/making sure RK resolves, good removal in all colors (] for example would be fucking bananas if you went with the flicker/ETB route). If you're a fan of combos, I'd sneak in ] along with ] and Splinter Twin in for the infinite combo complete boardwipe. Combos Show Magda, Brazen Outlaw combos with Cryptolith Rite or mana slivers and changelings to generate treasures and tutor for key artifacts. However, abusing those ETB's would be really brutal, using cards such as ], ], ], ], ] etc. By casting Jegantha before casting Reaper King, Reaper King can be cast with Jeganthas mana and then have plenty of mana left to cast changelings on the same turn. You're right, making occasional use of his ability is pretty subpar, especially combined with the fact that most Scarecrows aren't really that interesting or good. It generates incremental advantage while dwindling the opponents resources. In a casual group, this combo works well, but will generate significant hate. This Reaper King Commander deck is designed to play the tempo game in a multiplayer pod. Mirror gallery gets rid of the legend rule so you can have multiple copies of a legendary out. Reaper king has the ability that Whenever a scarecrow comes out vindicate. To the OP, other than randomly slotting in generic EDH wincons, the best one I can think of with Reaper King is token spam combined with Conspiracy/Xenograft. The problem with defining EDH by what is 'fun' is that everyone seems to define fun as what they dont lose to. Hes -1 ability can be extremely good Since we can copy any creature on the board, imagine copying not only big creatures but when this creature deals combat damage to target player type creatures. Take this with a grain of salt since I haven't actually built RK, but I think the best thing to do would be to build a 5c manabase that ramps extremely hard, then play some of the best Scarecrows and Changelings along with a heavy flicker/ETB/token creation theme. If I'm not mistaken, the new legend rule should leave you with one Reaper King at the end of this bonkers combo. Venser, the Sojourner s +2 ability flickers our creatures, either triggering Reaper King or allowing new targets for our copy guys. Thus, Reaper King has a converted mana cost of 10, even if you spend. Its also a 2nd Xenograft which has fun with Reaper king by making any of the token makers make scarecrows instead of goblins/plants/vampires etc. Thus, Reaper King is all colors even if you spend ten colorless mana to cast it.Ī card with monocolored hybrid mana symbols in its mana cost has a converted mana cost equal to the highest possible cost it could be cast for. Artificial Evolution has a lot of options besides just the Rebels and Moggcatcher like cards. If an effect reduces the cost to cast a spell by an amount of generic mana, it applies to a monocolored hybrid spell only if you’ve chosen a method of paying for it that includes generic mana.Ī card with a monocolored hybrid mana symbol in its mana cost is each of the colors that appears in its mana cost, regardless of what mana was spent to cast it.
